The Rye Bay Scallop School Recipe Competition

To celebrate Rye Bay Scallop Festival and Webbe’s Cookery School Seventh Annual Scallop School, Webbe’s are opening their Rye Bay Scallop School Recipe Competition to the public for the first time this year with the chance to win both a fabulous champagne meal for four and be awarded a Cookery Scallopship.  All entries by 22 February 2012 before Festival start 25 February.Every year Webbe’s cook around
5,000 scallops at the celebrated ten day festival in their four storey School & Fish Café in Rye during daily scallop classes, demonstrations, gourmet feasts and six course scallop menus. For the past two years they have also held a competition and awarded Scallopships to local students to ensure the appreciation of the special local mollusc by future generations. Now they are extending this opportunity to everyone.Cooks of all abilities are encouraged to enter. The judges will be looking for entrants who show creativity and innovation as well as a passion for scallops – the dish needs to be tasty, attractive, use regionally appropriate and seasonal ingredients where possible and not overwhelm the delicate flavour of the scallop or overcook them.
Webbe’s Chef Owner Paul Webbe has been dubbed by Heritage Magazine
“Rye Bay Scallop enthusiast of the highest order”. He coined the term “scallopship” for the study of the delicious local delicacy and awards his unique scholarships, or “Scallopships” as he prefers to call them, for cookery tuition to encourage understanding, culinary skill and connoisseurship of the Rye Bay Scallop

The Prize
The prize for the winner of the competition will be a champagne meal for four at Webbe’s Fish Café Rye and a Scallopship for a day of cookery tuition by Paul Webbe at Webbe's Cookery School, Rye. Both to be taken at times to be agreed between Paul Webbe and the winner.
 

Competition Rules

The Competition
Webbe’s are inviting everyone of all abilities to develop a recipe for a scallop dish using the Rye Bay Scallop which exemplifies our region, to be judged by Webbe’s founder owners Chef Paul Webbe and his Manager wife Rebecca Webbe.  The judges will be looking for entrants who show creativity and innovation as well as a passion for scallops – the dish needs to be tasty, attractive, use local ingredients where possible and not overwhelm the delicate flavour of the scallop or overcook them.

Entry
Entrants will enter by sending their recipe with a photo of the finished dish by email to pwebbe@webbesrestaurants.co.uk
or by post to 17 Tower Street, Rye, TN31 7AT  marked ‘
Webbe’s Rye Bay Scallop Recipe Competition’.
All entries must be received by 22 February 2012.  10 finalists will then be invited along to Webbe’s Cookery School, Rye at 11am Saturday 25th February for a cook off.  The names of the finalists and winner will be announced on the Rye Bay Scallop Festival and Webbes websites during the festival.

Terms & Conditions
· The competition is open to all UK residents, excluding employees of Webbe’s.
· The Webbe’s Rye Bay Scallop Recipe Competition is open from 30 January to 22 February 2012.
· Entries must be via email or post marked ‘Webbe’s Rye Bay Scallop Recipe Competition’.  Email to pwebbe@webbesrestaurants.co.uk
. Post to 17 Tower Street, Rye, TN31 7AT.
· Multiple entries per person are allowed and there is no charge for entering.
· Finalists will be chosen at the discretion of the judges.  The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
· All entries must be your own work.
· By entering, you agree to take part in photography and local and national publicity for the competition should your recipe be successful.
· If you are chosen as a finalist you agree to take part in the cook-off competition in Rye on 11am Saturday 25th February.
· The winner will be informed and announced at the cook-off competition on 11am Saturday 25th February.
· By entering, you agree that Webbe’s has the rights to reproduce your recipe on websites and for publicity purposes.
