We're thrilled that Webbe’s Cookery School Student, seventeen year old Henry Holden from Horsham, West Sussex was awarded the prestigious title London and Southeast Young Baker of the Year at the regional final of Young Baker of the Year on November 5th. He also won a £500 cheque towards his college tuition fees, a hamper of goodies and the opportunity to go for the UK Young Baker of the Year title from the competition sponsors, Warburtons Bakers.
Catering Colleges and cookery schools from throughout London and the Southeast were invited to participate and six finalists were chosen from the many entries. Webbe’s students took three of the final six places!
Warburton’s judges and the other three finalists travelled to Webbe’s Cookery School in Rye for the final on November 5th. Each finalist baked a loaf of their own choice and flavouring. Henry’s Olive, Rosemary and Garlic Loaf competed with Date & Cinnamon Winter Bread, Rustic Biddenden Cider, Apple & Thyme Wholemeal Bread, Tomato & Basil Loaf, Moroccan Flat Bread and Honey and Star Anise & Cinnamon Bread. The judging was a long slow process including interviews with each candidate.
